DURANGO – May 26, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College Department of Athletics recorded its highest grade point average in the past 10 years. The 14 varsity programs and club cycling earned a combined grade point average of 3.05, which is .02 points higher than last year's mark of 3.03.
"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes and all of the hard work they put in every day," said Director of Athletics
Gary Hunter. "Our coaches have an exceptional amount of commitment to academics and seeing our students excel in the classroom and on the playing field."
For the eighth time in the last 10 years, the women's basketball team boasted the highest grade point average in the department with a 3.49. The highest team GPA by any program in the past 10 years was a 3.70, earned by the women's basketball team in 2010-11.
The women's basketball team has been ranked in the top three team GPA's in the department every year since 2006-07. Women's soccer has earned a top three ranking eight of the last 10 years.
The 2015-16 season marks the fifth time since 2006-07 the Skyhawks have earned at least a 3.00 GPA as a department.
Adding to the Skyhawks accomplishments are 127 student-athletes that were named to the Dean's List. To qualify for the Dean's List, a student-athlete must earn a 3.60 GPA or higher and pass at least 15 credits per semester.
Women's lacrosse led all programs with 20 student-athletes earning 2015-16 Dean's List honors.
