KANSAS CITY, Mo. – July 28, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College men's basketball team earned the 2015-16 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award. This is the fourth year of the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, and the second time FLC has earned the award (2012-13). As a team, the Skyhawks posted a 3.02 grade point average in 2015-16.
These awards recognize outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2015-16 season. In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA Division I and II, must count the grade point averages of all men's student-athletes who competed during the 2015-16 season.
The Skyhawks are coming off a historic season, having won a school record 28 games (28-4), most wins in a regular season (24), and 17 straight wins at home. FLC currently has the longest home winning streak in NCAA Division II with 19 wins, dating back to the 2014-15 season. The Skyhawks capped off the 2015-16 season by winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championship titles, as well as earning the No. 2 seed in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.
