GUNNISON, Colo. – September 10, 2017 – The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a 1-0 setback at Western State Colorado University on Sunday.
"The team was very dangerous attacking the ball today," said head coach
Jimmy Hall. "We're seeing the attacking and the play going better for us. They (Western State) were fast in the wide ranges and created a good goal early on. We had plenty of chances to build back and get back in the game. I'm pretty happy with the kids and their effort today."
FLC falls to 0-2-1 overall while the Mountaineers won their first game of the season (1-2-1 overall).
Ten of FLC's 16 shots were on target. The Mountaineers attempted 17 shots and landed nine on goal.
The game-winning goal was scored at 7:51 in the first half by Ingrid Alvarez.
All five of
Mia Castaneda's game high five shot attempts were on goal.
Alicia Sanchez added four shots (two on goal) and
Emma Patron tallied three shots (two on goal).
Ali Miller made eight saves between the posts in 90 minutes of action.
The Skyhawks will travel to Colorado State-Pueblo on Sept. 15 and New Mexico Highlands University on Sept. 17 to open the conference season.
