Women's Lacrosse signs Powerhouse player to play next season!

April 24, 2009 - DURANGO, CO Skyhawk Lacrosse signs three powerhouse recruits for next fall.

Jenna Steele – West Linn High School, West Linn Oregon – Midfield/Defender

 

A standout defender from Oregon, Jenna, has already made history at Fort Lewis College by becoming the first lacrosse recruit to commit and sign her National Letter of Intent. “She will bring speed, intensity, and her passion for the game to our program,” Said head coach Queisser. Steele, was a four year varsity starter at West Linn High School and the 2009 team captain.  In her senior season, she has 23 ground balls and 9 caused turnovers.  In 2008, Jenna led her league (Three Rivers) and was 5th in the state in caused turnovers (23) and was a nominated to Second Team All-League. Her club team, Oregon Elite, is a team composed of the top players in the state of Oregon. Her club coach, Lauren Anderson, has said “Jenna is a solid low defender who sees game flow very well, and is able to read approaching attack.” Steele also excels in the classroom – Lacrosse Academic All-American 2008, Member of the National Honors Society, and will graduate in June 2009 with Honors. Jenna was also a member of West Linn Varsity soccer 07-09. While at Fort Lewis College, Jenna plans to major in Education and earn a minor in coaching. Coach Queisser is “thrilled to have an aggressive defender like Jenna join the team and make a difference in our program. She has extreme accuracy and patience under pressure which will allow Jenna to move from a low defender into the midfield. She has great game knowledge and power.” When asked about Fort Lewis College, Jenna stated “I love the atmosphere. The people are a lot of fun and I absolutely love Durango. I am so excited to help make Fort Lewis history by being a part of their lacrosse program.”  Parents are Jason and Nancy Steele of West Linn, Oregon.

 

Paige Juneau – James Bowie High School, Austin, TX – Midfield/Defender

 

A member of the Bowie Bulldogs, Paige hails from the state of Texas. Juneau will join the Fort Lewis College Lacrosse team with the experience and determination needed to take the program to the next level. Paige is a solid defender with very quick bursts of speed. Her ability to control the ball and feisty style of play will push her up from defender to midfielder for the Skyhawks.  While at Bowie High School, Paige was a 4 year starter, 2 year captain and 2 time member of the All-Star team. Her club team, Texas Play Hard Outlaws, found success in multiple tournaments.  “Paige is small and powerful players full of lacrosse knowledge. She is not afraid to speak up. Her talents will be an asset for our program” said Coach Queisser.  Juneau is also a member of South Austin Area Barracudas swim team. Her areas of academic interest include: psychology, biology, and exercise science. Parents are Perry and Diane Juneau of Austin, TX.

 

Libby Weiner – Chatfield Senior High School, Littleton Colorado – Midfielder

 

A tall defender, Libby joins a class of phenomenal freshmen at Fort Lewis College. Originally from Arizona, Libby comes to the Skyhawks from a talented Chatfield Senior High School lacrosse program in Littleton, Colorado.  Libby averages 2 points per game. “I am excited her have her experience and height on attack. She is a smart player with poise and grace” said Coach Queisser. Weiner is also active in Choir. While are Fort Lewis College, Weiner plans on studying Business. Parents are Bradley and Catherine Weiner for Littleton, Colorado.
