Durango, CO—Fort Lewis College Head Basketball Coach Mark Kellogg has confirmed that hometown standouts Katerina Garcia and Amanda Kerr will join the Skyhawk women's basketball program for the 2010-2011 season.
Garcia, a 5'5 point/shooting guard from Bayfield, Colorado will transfer to Fort Lewis College from Southern Illinois University where she played for the Salukis this past season. In her first year as a Saluki, Garcia quickly made her presence known as she started in 18 games as a freshman along with scoring a game high 17 points in her debut versus Evansville. As a starting point guard for the Salukis, Garcia averaged 5 points per game, 3.2 assists, and 2.5 rebounds as well as playing 24 minutes per game.

Four-time all-conference honoree and two-time conference player of the year at Durango High School, helping lead her team to a 61-36 record in four seasons • two-time All-State Honorable Mention as a freshman and sophomore • Second Team All-State as a junior • Collegiate Girls Basketball Report, Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports, Colorado High School Coaches Association and Denver Post All-State as a senior • was named team captain as a sophomore, junior and senior • averaged 22.3 points, 4.9 assists, 4.2 steals and 5.7 rebounds as a senior • as a junior put up 20.1 points, 5.4 assists, 4.9 steals and 5.8 boards • posted 20.5 points, 5.7 assists, 4.3 steals and 6.3 rebounds her sophomore year and 14.2 points 4.9 assists, 4.9 steals and 4.9 rebounds as a rookie • as a senior named to the Denver Nuggets All-Star Team • earned five all-tournament team selections during her career, including two Most Valuable Player awards • McDonald's All-American nominee • an all-around athlete, also earned all-conference and all-state honors in volleyball and soccer • named conference Player of the Year in soccer as a junior and senior • garnered academic all-state honors in basketball, soccer and volleyball • named Durango's homecoming queen • nominee for Steinmark Award, given to the top scholar-athlete in the state of Colorado • named to the Denver High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Kerr, a 5'6 guard from Kirtland, New Mexico will also be joining the Skyhawk women's basketball program for the 2010-2011 season. Kerr played four years at Kirtland Central High School where she averaged 13.3 ppg, 6.3 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists per game in her senior year.

Garcia and Kerr will join early signees Christie Groh (Grapevine, TX), Emma Hattman (Fort Collins, CO), Erika Richards (Mesa, AZ) and Ashley Kuchar (Provo, UT) as the newest members of the Skyhawk women's basketball program for the upcoming 2010-2011 season.
Fort Lewis women's basketball has advanced to the NCAA National Tournament for the past three years in a row and most recently this past season has advanced to the NCAA National Championship game for the first time ever in school history and in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference history. The women's program has also won three RMAC Championships (2010, 2009 & 2008) along with four West Division Titles the past four of the last five years (2010, 2009, 2008 & 2007).
