-- Coach Pam Adams Resigns After Twelve Years --
DURANGO, CO – June 18, 2010 – Athletic Director Kelly Higgins has announced that Coach Pam Adams is making the decision to step down as the Fort Lewis College softball coach after 11 seasons. Adams has accepted the position of Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith to further her career goals in athletic administration, with the bonus of being just a few hours from her family home in Missouri.
Coach Adams came to Fort Lewis in 1999 as the Head Volleyball Coach. A position she held for 5 seasons. In 2000, Adams added Head Softball Coaching duties to her resume for the next 11 years. During her tenure as Head VB and Softball Coach at Fort Lewis, Coach Adams accumulated a 234-406 overall record. In 2001 she was named RMAC Coach of the Year for softball and in 2008 she led the softball team to its first RMAC Tournament Championship, as well as its first trip to the NCAA National Tournament. She has the most wins of any FLC Softball coach.
During her tenure at FLC Adams would also go on to hold additional administrative positions when needed, such as Interim AD, Senior Women Administrator and Compliance Coordinator.
Athletic Director Kelly J. Higgins said, “Pam has been a wonderful resource for FLC as a coach, leader and mentor to literally hundreds of young women in volleyball and softball. She has also been a great role model as an administrator, and when asked, has always been there for Fort Lewis. The impact of her departure is deep and I will sorely miss her presence on a professional and personal level as she was and is a great team player and friend. I know it was a difficult decision for her, I am extremely happy for her and wish her all the best. But, I can also tell you she will be missed sorely, very difficult to replace, and while we are looking at our options now, we will take the time we need to contemplate our next steps.”
Coach Adams stated, “I would like to thank Brad Bartel, Kelly Higgins and Paul Peterson for all the wonderful opportunities they have given me while at FLC. I would like to thank all the student-athletes, their parents, as well as John Bernazzani and Mike Cioppa for all the blood, sweat and tears they have shared with the program throughout the years. I will be forever grateful to everyone for all the wonderful memories. FLC and UA-FS are a lot alike; they have amazing people doing amazing things. I will miss everyone dearly”.
