Fort Lewis, under the direction of rookie head coach Paige Adair, who wrapped up her decorated playing career just three years ago, fought through growing pains in 2024, resulting in a 17-30 overall record and a 15-23 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. While building a new identity, the Skyhawks earned one of the biggest wins the program has seen over No. 4 West Texas A&M, topping the powerhouse Buffaloes for the first time in program history before later finishing one spot shy of the 2024 RMAC Conference Tournament.
The Skyhawks went 2-7 in non-conference play down in Canyon, Texas, and Los Lunas, New Mexico, earning wins over WTAM and Texas Permian-Basin. Seven games were canceled throughout the season due to weather and travel conditions, including a four-game conference series with Chadron State.
Junior Amiee Shanks marched into the record books as the first player in Fort Lewis and RMAC history to be named a Rawlings Gold Glove Award Winner as a pitcher. Shanks was perfect in the field, making five putouts with 73 assists in 78 total chances. In addition, Shanks was also named to the 2024 RMAC Gold Glove team and was a First-Team Academic All-RMAC selection.
Senior second baseman Kayla Stone, who has since joined the Skyhawks as an assistant coach, earned Second-Team All-RMAC honors before later being named Second-Team All-South Central Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Stone racked up 60 hits in 137 at-bats to tie the program record for the 10th-most hits in a single season alongside a dominating .438 average. Stone wasn't done, however, as she also tied program single-season records for the second-most doubles (16), second-highest average (.438), sixth-most triples (3), seventh-most total bases (109), seventh-highest slugging percentage (.796), and ninth-most runs batted in (45).
