Clarke enters his 14th season as head coach of the Fort Lewis College women’s soccer program in 2025.
He holds a 146-68-57 record at FLC and an overall head coaching record of 186-95-52.
The 2024 season was a standout, as the Skyhawks reached the RMAC Tournament Championship, narrowly falling to No. 1 Colorado School of Mines. Their path to the final included a 3-0 home win over Regis, a penalty shootout victory at No. 18 Colorado Mesa, and another shootout win against (RV) MSU Denver. The team finished 9-6-6 overall and 5-4-3 in conference play. Six players earned All-RMAC honors, led by Second Team selection Gabi Meraz-Fishbein. Fort Lewis also had 17 All-Academic honorees, with Meraz-Fishbein winning the RMAC Summit Award for highest GPA at the tournament site.
In 2023, FLC opened with a 10-match unbeaten streak, advancing to the RMAC Tournament before falling to No. 7 Colorado School of Mines. The team finished 5-1-2 at home. Five players earned All-RMAC recognition, and 12 made the All-Academic list, including First Team selections Riley Bravin and Meraz-Fishbein.
Before returning to FLC, Clarke spent four seasons at Midwestern State University (Texas), compiling a 40-27-13 record, winning the 2016 Lone Star Conference title, and making two NCAA South Regional Championship appearances.
His first stint at Fort Lewis (2007-2013) saw him lead the program to a 106-31-17 record, surpassing Jaymee Carozza as the winningest coach in program history. Under his leadership, the Skyhawks qualified for seven NCAA Division II playoffs, hosted four regional tournaments, and won the 2010 Central Region title. They also captured RMAC Tournament titles in 2007 and 2009 and won the program’s only regular-season RMAC championship in 2010.
Clarke was named NSCAA/Mondo Collegiate Central Region Coach of the Year and RMAC Coach of the Year in 2009, becoming the first FLC women’s soccer coach to earn both honors in the same season. He was also RMAC Co-Coach of the Year in 2010 and repeated as NSCAA Central Region Coach of the Year.
In his first season (2007), Clarke guided FLC to its first NCAA Tournament berth, setting a then-record 14 wins. The 2009 season was historic, with an 18-3-3 record, the highest-ever national ranking (No. 11), and an RMAC title. The Skyhawks shattered those records in 2010, going 18-3-2, reaching No. 3 nationally, winning their first NCAA playoff game, and advancing to the Elite Eight.
Clarke’s teams consistently contended, reaching the Central Region championship in 2011 and earning the program’s highest-ever ranking (No. 2) in 2012. His final season (2013) saw FLC start 6-0, finish 16-6 overall, and reach the RMAC and NCAA South Central Regional semifinals.
A former Skyhawk himself, Clarke played from 1994-95 and 1997-98, appearing in 69 games and contributing to three conference championships. He played in FLC’s first NCAA Tournament games in 1997 and 1998.
After graduating in 2004 with a degree in History, he transitioned into coaching as an assistant under Jaymee Carozza. In their first season (1999), the women’s program won its first RMAC Tournament title and earned a national ranking. Clarke credits Carozza as his mentor in shaping his coaching career.
Clarke and his wife, Sherin (Tozier) Clarke, a former Skyhawk player (2000), have two sons, Taye and Sammy.
