Hall of Fame

Purpose

To recognize Fort Lewis College men and women who have distinguished themselves in the field of athletics by virtue of their performance on athletic teams representing the college, or by meritorious efforts on behalf of athletics either as a student or in years after leaving the college.

HOF 2023

Nominations

Nominations must come from a Fort Lewis College Alumni, a current or former Fort Lewis College varsity coach/athletic administrator, or a Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame member. All nominations may be forwarded to the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee in care of the Fort Lewis College Assistant Athletic Director for Communications.

HOF 2023

Criteria for Selection of a Varsity Student-Athlete to the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame:

A) Each varsity student-athlete nominee must have finished his/her athletic career at Fort Lewis College at least ten (10) years ago or fifteen (15) years ago if the varsity student-athlete did not graduate from Fort Lewis College.
B) Each varsity student-athlete nominee must have been a starter or significant contributor in one or more sports.
C) Each varsity student-athlete nominee must have demonstrated good citizenship both in school and after leaving Fort Lewis College.
D) Each varsity student-athlete nominee must have been a student at Fort Lewis College during his/her career; graduation from Fort Lewis is not required.
E) Each varsity student-athlete nominee could not have played at any other 4-year institution after completing their Fort Lewis College career.
F) Each nomination must be submitted online on the official Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame nomination form. 
G) To be inducted, each nominee must receive votes from at least 70 percent of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
H) Once nominated, each nominee remains on the Hall of Fame selection ballot for four (4) years.

 

Criteria for Selection of a Varsity Team to the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame:
A) Each varsity team nominee must have finished Fort Lewis College athletic participation a minimum of ten (10) years.
B) Each varsity team nominee must have won at a minimum a conference, regional or national championship. Additional accomplishments will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
C) Each varsity team nominee must have demonstrated good citizenship while at Fort Lewis College.
D) Each nomination must be submitted online on the official Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame nomination form. 
E) To be inducted, each team nominee must receive votes from at least 70 percent of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
F) Once nominated, each team nominee remains on the Hall of Fame selection ballot for four (4) years.

 

Criteria for Selection of a Varsity Coach or Athletic Administrator to the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame:
A) Each varsity coach or athletic administrator who is nominated for the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame must have served the college for at least five (5) years and be at least five (5) years removed from his/her coaching or administrative position at Fort Lewis College.
B) The nominee may have served Fort Lewis College athletics as a varsity coach, administrator, trainer, or any other capacity that served to make contributions to the overall athletic program. Coaches and administrators need not be Fort Lewis alumni.
C) Each varsity coach or athletic administrator who is nominated for the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame must have demonstrated good citizenship both during his/her career at Fort Lewis College and after leaving the college.
D) Each nomination must be submitted online on the official Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame nomination form. 
E) To be inducted, each nominee must receive votes from at least 70 percent of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
F) Once nominated, each nominee remains on the Hall of Fame selection ballot for four (4) years.

 

Criteria for Selection of an individual as a meritorious nominee to the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame:
A) The nominee has made outstanding contributions in the area of athletics to Fort Lewis College.
B) Time lapse is relative, but the contributions must be of significant importance and over a period of years.
C) The nominee has been, or is, an example of solid character and citizenship.
D) Each nomination must be submitted online on the official Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame nomination form. 
E) To be inducted, each nominee must receive votes from at least 70 percent of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
F) Once nominated, each nominee remains on the Hall of Fame selection ballot for three (3) years.

 

* Special Achievement Citations may be awarded to those individuals who are not eligible for consideration to the Hall but who, by their efforts and support, are outstanding contributors to Fort Lewis College athletics.

* The Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee has the right to waive any criteria in the case of extraordinary circumstances.

*The Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee has the ability to put forth nominations

One (1) representative appointed by the Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee

The Selection Committee will be established by the approval of the Skyhawk Athletic Association Board of Directors. Should any member resign or otherwise become ineligible during a term, a replacement shall be elected by the committee as a whole. The Selection Committee shall meet at least once a year. The committee is to review nominations, select inductees, formulate plans for the induction ceremonies, review the activities of the year, and fill any committee vacancies.
