Women's Soccer Wins Second Straight

DURANGO, CO - October 1, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team defeated Dixie State College 1-0 this afternoon in a non-conference match up in St. George, Utah. The Skyhawks improve to 7-2-2 overall, while the Rebels fall to 7-3-1 on the season.

All the Skyhawks needed was one, it came in the 64th minute from freshman Hayley Hollenga (Colorado Springs, CO/Air Academy). Her fifth of the season and second game-winner came from fellow freshman Sara Egbom (Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian).

The Skyhawks took control of the game in the second half were they riffled five shots and attempted five corner kicks. They recorded four shots-on-goal and held the Rebels to three shots-on-goal. Bree Baker (Penrose, CO/Canon City) grabbed all three saves in her third shutout of the season.

"It was a good win against a great team," said head coach Damian Clarke of the second-year program at Dixie State.

"They controlled the first half in the air, but once we took it to the ground in the second, we took control back," he added.

The Skyhawks return to action Friday, October 5th at 4:00 p.m. when they travel to Grand Junction to take on Mesa State.
