Skyhawks Play to a Draw with Mesa

DURANGO, CO - October 10, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Mesa State College this afternoon on Dirks Field. The Skyhawks now sit at 8-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), while the Mavericks are now 4-5-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the RMAC.

After a scoreless first half, David Barden (South Haven, MI/South Haven) scored a header off a pass from Tom Settle (Portsmith, Eng./Cams Hill) in the 59th minute. Barden had five other chances in the game that went wide or were saved by the Mavericks.

Mesa State evened the scored at one in the 87th minute off a crossing pass from deep within the Skyhawks own box. Cole List, a Durango native, capitalized on a pass from Eric Anderson with his first goal of the season.

The teams played the remainder of the 110 minutes scoreless. Fort Lewis made four shots on goal and two saves in overtime and double overtime. The Skyhawks also had three corner kicks in the final two periods, including one with under two minutes left in the second overtime.

After Barden's team-high five shots was Kieran Hall (Blackburn, Eng./Queens Park) who tallied four shots, including two shots on goal.

The Skyhawks return to action Friday, October 12th at 3:30 p.m. on Dirks Field against Regis University, a team they lost to earlier this season.
