DURANGO, CO - October 13, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College football team lost 31-9 this afternoon to nationally ranked #4 Chadron State College in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest. The Skyhawks fall to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the RMAC, while the Eagles improve to a perfect 7-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
After holding the powerhouse Chadron State offense to 21 first-half points and scoring nine of their own, the Skyhawks failed to capitalize on three field goal attempts and six second-half possesions.
For the first time since last season the Skyhawks gained more then 300 yards, including 308 yards through the air.
In his second start of the season, not known under kickoff, Dave Nieman (Chino Hills, CA/Chaffey CC) led the passing attack with 226 yards, no interceptions and one touchdown on 22-of-37 passing. He found Ryan Ames (Aurora, CO/Regis Jesuit) for a team-high nine catches for 115 yards. Joel Johnson (Englewood, CO/Cherry Creek) led the Skyhawks rushing attack with 10 carries for 29 yards.
Mark Meng (Lake Arrowhead, CA/Chaffey CC) recorded a team-high 10 tackles, including a sack and another tackle-for-loss. James Davis (East Oakland, CA/Chaffey CC) added nine tackle,s all of which were solo tackles.
The Eagles All-American rusher, Danny Woodhead who claimed the NCAA All-Divisions rushing record last week, saw action in just the first half and ran up 109 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. He had a long of 60 yards in the first quarter for the opening touchdown.
The Skyhawks return to action Saturday, October 20th when they host Colorado Mines at Noon for their 2007 Homecoming game.
