Schwab Breaks Record in FLC Victory

DURANGO, CO - October 13, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College volleyball team defeated UC-Colorado Springs in four games (27-30, 30-16, 30-27, 30-23) tonight as they took a share of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference lead. The Skyhawks improve to 15-6 overall and 11-2 in the RMAC, while the Mountain Lions fall to 13-9 overall and 11-2 in conference play.

Midway through the fourth game, Skyhawk senior middle blocker, Nicole Schwab (Loveland, CO/Loveland) broke the FLC all-time kills record of 1,338, previously held by Moreen Baylis. Schwab ended the night with 1,341 career kills. She nailed 19 kills on 43 attempts with just two errors (.395 hitting percentage) on the night.

After falling in game one, the Skyhawks rallied to hold the Mountain Lions to just 16 points in the second game. Fort Lewis cruised in the final two matches to grab a share of the RMAC lead.

Three other Skyhawks recorded double-digit kills in the match, including Sara Feehan (Berthoud, CO/West Georgia), Jessica Bailey (Ridgefield, WA/Prairie) and LeeAnne Greenwade (Concho, AZ/St. John's). Bailey recorded 13 kills and no errors on 22 attempts (.591 hitting percentage). Feehan added 12 defensive digs to her 13 kills to record a double-double, while Greenwade added two blocks to her 11 kills.

Melissa Childs (Vista, CA/Rancho Bueno Vista) handed out 59 assists to lead the team, while Adrianne Dettler (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) led the Skyhawks' back row with 26 digs.

Fort Lewis out-blocked the Mountain Lions 17 to six, but recorded 10 service errors.

The Skyhawks return to action on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. against Mesa State. The game in the 2007 "PACK THE WAC" (Whalen Athletic Center) night. Girl Scouts and Four Corners Volleyball Club players in uniform receive free admission. All Hawks' Nest members receive double points.
