DURANGO, CO - October 14, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team fell to nationally ranked #11 Metro State College 2-0 this afternoon in their final regular season home game. The Skyhawks fall to 9-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conferecne play, while the Roadrunners improve to 12-1-3 overall and 7-0-3 in the RMAC.
After holding the Roadrunners scoreless on nine first half shots, the Skyhawks allowed two goal to find the back fo the net in the second period. Their first goal came in the 69th minute when Ryan Brooks connected on an unassisted goal from about 20 yards out. Phillip Owen scored Metro's second goal and back breaker on a penalty kick with 4:36 left in regulation.
The Skyhawks were out shot 19 to nine in the game including a 10 to six disadvantage in shots on goal. The game was played very physically, but each team only received 10 fouls and one yellow card.
Kieran Hall (Blackburn, Eng./Queens Park), David Oberholtzer (Tempe, AZ/Yavapai CC) and David Barden (South Haven, MI/South Haven) each recorded two shots in the game for the Skyhawks.
Skyhawk goalkeeper Zane Wells (Durango, CO/Durango) recorded seven saves in the match.
The Skyhawks concluded their regular season home schedule in the loss, but return to action for another pivotal RMAC contest on Friday at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Golden to take on the Colorado School of Mines.
