DURANGO, CO - October 26, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team defeated UC-Colorado Springs 6-0 this evening in Colorado Springs. The Skyhawks improve to 12-5-1 overall and 9-3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), while the Mountain Lions fall to 3-15-0 overall and 2-11-0 in the RMAC.
David Barden (South Haven, MI/South Haven) scored two goals and assisted on two goals to record eight total points and tie for third in the FLC record books for points in a game.
The Skyhawks scored two goals in the first 10 minutes to secure their 12th win of the season. Fort Lewis then scored four second-half goals to put the Mountain Lions away for good.
Barden opened scoring in the third minute off an assist from Nick Kirchhof (Centennial, CO/Grandview). Kieran Hall (Blackburn, Eng./Queens Park) scored the Skyhawks second goal with just 8:14 off the clock. Barden recorded the assist on the Mountain Lions defensive breakdown.
Jeff Jennings (Aurora, CO/Grandview) scored in the 55th minute off a penalty kick, while assisting on the Skyhawks next goal in the 59th minute. His pass was deflected in by Keane Hamilton (Missoula, MT/Big Score) who recorded the first goal of his Skyhawk career.
In the 80th minute Barden scored his second as he touched it around the keeper. Paul Sanchez (Littleton, CO/Columbine) was credited with his first assist of the season.
Byron Cephers (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) capped Fort Lewis' scoring speer in the 88th minute with a through ball from Barden.
The Skyhawks out-shot the Mountain Lions 24-7 with the rest of the game statistics playing pretty fair for both teams. Zane Wells (Durango, CO/Durango) saw 63 minutes in the net for the Skyhawks and stopped three shots, while Sean Molony (Centennial, CO/Grandview) stopped one shot in 27 minutes of play.
The Skyhawks return to action in their final regular season game on Sunday when they travel to take on CSU-Pueblo. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
