DURANGO, CO - October 26, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team defeated New Mexico Highlands 3-0 this afternoon in the 10th win of the season. For the third-straight year and only the fourth time in program history, the Skyhawks crossed the double-digit threshold. The Skyhawks improve to 10-4-3 overall and 5-4-2 in conference play, while the Cowgirls fall to 7-9-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
Erika Shisler (Durango, CO/Durango) needed just 33-second to give the Skyhawks the lead for good. She scored her first career goal as a Skyhawk as she took the ball from the initial kickoff and scored from inside the Cowgirls' box.
The Durango native needed little time to celebrate as she knocked her second of the season and her career in with 36:24 left in regulation. Both goals were unassisted.
In the 68th minute, the Skyhawks sealed the victory as Kelli Love (Edmond, OK/Edmond) netted her second of the season. Love's head found the end of a Kim Sisneros (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola) corner kick to give the Skyhawks the 3-0 lead and victory.
Fort Lewis out-shot Highlands 19-8, including a 13-3 differential in the first half. Bree Baker (Penrose, CO/Canon City) recorded her fifth shutout of the season with four saves, while facing eight shots.
The Skyhawks conclude their regular season on Sunday at Noon when they host Mesa State. Sunday will also be Senior Day for the Skyhawks two seniors.
