Volleyball Wins Eighth Straight

DURANGO, CO - October 5, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College volleyball team defeated Chadron State College in three games (30-12, 30-10, 30-21) tonight on their way to their eighth consecutive win. The Skyhawks improve to 13-5 overall and 9-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), while the Eagles fall to 6-14 overall and 3-6 in the RMAC.

Fort Lewis controlled the entire match and trailed only twice, 1-0 in games one and three. Chelsea Flaming (Durango, CO/Durango) led the Skyhawks with 12 kills on 20 attempts, while only registering one error (.550 hitting percentage).

Nicole Schwab (Loveland, CO/Loveland) also recorded 12 kills on 20 attempts with two errors (.500 hitting percentage) and added three solo blocks and nine block assists. Her 12 total blocks ranks her second at Fort Lewis for blocks in the three-game match.

Adrianne Dettler (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) led the team with 18 digs, while Melissa Childs (Vista, CA/Rancho Bueno Vista) handed out 32 assists in the match.

The Skyhawks are currently riding a 12-game winning streak and have only dropped three games in the in their last eight matches.

Fort Lewis returns to action at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow against nationally ranked #24, Nebraska-Kearney for a battle of second place in the conference.
