DURANGO, CO - October 6, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College volleyball team fell in four sets (31-29, 24-30, 24-30, 27-30) to nationally ranked #24 Nebraska-Kearney Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks fall to 13-6 overall and 9-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), while the Lopers improve to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in conference play.
After grabbing game one from the nation powers, the Skyhawks dropped the next three games to suffer their first loss in the last eight matches. After being down five in the fourth set, the Skyhawks crawled back to eventually tie the game at 27 a piece. The Lopers then rattled off three unanswered points to claim their eighth conference victory of the season.
Leading the Skyhawks on parents night was LeeAnne Greenwade (Concho, AZ/St. John's) with 23 kills on 49 attempts. Melissa Childs (Vista, CA/Rancho Bueno Vista) handed out 63 assists, while Adiranne Dettler (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) led the back row with 24 digs. Sara Feehan (Berthoud, CO/West Georgia) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs on the afternoon.
The Skyhawks recorded 11 team blocks and totaled 67 kills in the 2-hour 15-minute match. Over 300 people were in attendance, mostly sporting Skyhawk gold.
Fort Lewis returns to action Friday, October 12th at 7:00 p.m. when they host Regis University in the Whalen Athletic Center.
