Central Oklahoma Ruins Volleyball's NCAA Hopes

KEARNEY, NE - November 16, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College volleyball team fell in three games (20-30, 30-32, 25-30) Friday afternoon to Central Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship. The Skyhawks conclude their season with a 21-8 record.

After tying game one at five, Central Oklahoma rattled off 12 points, while holding the Skyhawks to just four. Once they had a 17-9 lead, the Bronchos finished the game holding the Skyhawks to 20 points. In game two the Skyhawks opened a 4-0 lead before Central Oklahoma took a timeout. The Bronchos tied the game at seven and the two teams then exchanged momentum to rest of the game and found themselves tied once again at 29 and 30. The Bronchos scored the final two to take the two-game match lead. Central Oklahoma gradually opened a six-point lead, 21-15, in the final game before securing the 30-25 victory in the final game.

Sara Feehan (Berthoud, CO/West Georgia) was the only Skyhawk with double-figure kills, 11. Melissa Childs (Vista, CA/Rancho Bueno Vista) was second on the team with nine kills on 18 attempts with no errors. The sophomore also handed out 31 assists in the match.

Adrianne Dettler (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) led the team with 24 digs in her final match of her Skyhawk career. She leaves as the All-Time Leader in Digs at Fort Lewis with a four-year total of 1,969.

Nicole Schwab (Loveland, CO/Loveland) concludes her career with 1,452 kills and 549 blocks, both are FLC records.

The Skyhawks lose four other seniors who played in their final match as Skyhawks, Anna Mekeel (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer), Feehan, LeeAnne Greenwade (Concho, AZ/St. John's) and Temple Levings (Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls).
