AUSTIN, TX - November 17, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College men's basketball team fell 84-77 to St. Edward's University Saturday night in the St. Edward's Shootout. The Skyhawks fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Hilltoppers improve to 2-0 overall.
Throughout the first half the Skyhawks and Hilltoppers exchanged the lead on numerous occasions, with the Skyhawks taking a late nine-point lead into the locker room off 11 first-half points from Devon Manning (Kirtland, NM/Kirtland).
The fired up Skyhawks took advantage of the break and came out on fire. They opened a 12-point lead and led by as many as 13 with 10:27 remaining. St. Edward's then started chipping away at the lead one point at a time and by the time their was just 2:54 left in the game, they took the lead for the first time in 22 minutes. The Hilltoppers would hold on to that lead for the remainder of the game, grabbing their second win of the season.
Manning finished with 16 points and six rebounds, while Tim Crowell (Long Beach, CA/Cincinnatti) led the team with 17 points on 6-of-11 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the line. Ryan Johnson (Aurora, CO/Eaglecrest) and Ryan Jameson (Durango, CO/Durango) both finished with 14 points, while Johnson added four assists and two steals.
Freshman DeAndre Lansdowne (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia) played 21 minutes and scored nine points in his first 20 plus minute game of his Skyhawk career.
Johnson and Crowell were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Fort Lewis returns to action next Friday, November 23rd at 6:00 p.m. against Dixie State College in Grand Junction, CO.
