Women's Basketball Grabs Second Win

DURANGO, CO - November 17, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team defeated the Dixie State Rebels 83-56 Saturday night in the final game of the 2007 Skyhawk Women's Basketball Shootout. The Skyhawks improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Rebels fall to 1-1 on the season.

The Skyhawks opened with an early lead against the Rebels. They led by as many as 11 in the first half and held a 39-31 halftime lead. As the second half got underway, the Skyhawks began running on all cylinders an opened a 28-point lead with 3:14 remaining. The Skyhawks rattled off an 11-0 run with 8:50 left in the half to grab the commanding lead. They finished allowing just 56 points and scoring over 80 points for the first time this season.

Allison Rosel (Colorado Springs, CO/Doherty), the Skyhawk Women's Basketball Shootout Most Valuable Player scored a game-high 17 to add to her 19 from two nights ago. She averaged 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in her MVP performance.

Lauren Redfern (Carbondale, CO/Basalt) scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Saturday's win. She added 16 points and five rebounds in their first contest and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Erin Kerr (Buckeye, AZ/Buckeye Union) and Katie Mackey (Eaton, CO/Eaton) also score in double-figures combining for 23 points on the night.

The Skyhawks shot 54.7% from the field and held the Rebels to just 30.2% from the field. All 12 players on the Skyhawks roster received playing time in the game.

Fort Lewis returns to action Friday, November 23rd at 4:00 p.m. in Phoenix, AZ against Grand Canyon.
