DENVER, CO - November 4, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team defeated the Colorado School of Mines 3-0 this afternoon in the championship game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championship Tournament hosted by Metro State College of Denver. This marks the third-straight year the Skyhawks have won the postseason tournament.
The Skyhawks improve to 15-5-1 overall and await the announcement of the NCAA Division II playoff field which will be announced on Monday.
David Oberholtzer (Tempe, AZ/Yavapai CC) scored the game-winning goal in the 51st minute to propel the Skyhawks on a three-goal scoring spree. Kieran Hall (Blackburn, Eng./Queens Park) served him the assist. Just five minute later, Hall put his own goal away from fellow senior Casey Roberts (Farmington, NM/Farmington). Nick Kirchhof (Centennial, CO/Grandview) scored the Skyhawks' final goal in the 62nd minute.
For the Skyhawks' third goal and his second of the tournament, Kirchhof was named the RMAC Men's Soccer Championship Most Valuable Player. He was joined on the all-tournament team by Jamie Cunningham (Scottsdale, AZ/Pinnacle), Hall, Sean Molony (Centennial, CO/Grandview) and Oberholtzer.
The Skyhawks now await a bid to the NCAA Division II Playoffs which will be announced on Monday afternoon.
