ODGEN, UT - November 5, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team defeated NCAA Division I opponent, Weber State College 58-57 tonight in their first exhibition of the 2007-08 season. The upset comes in the two teams first ever meeting.
The Skyhawks face off against the University of Utah, another Division I opponent tomorrow night in another exhibition.
Behind 14 points from Erin Kerr (Buckeye, AZ/Buckeye Union) and 13 from Katie Mackey (Eaton, CO/Eaton) the Skyhawks took the early-season victory over a surprised Weber State.
The Skyhawks led by as many as 10 in the first half (42-32), while the Wildcats cut the lead down late in the second half. The Skyhawks led by four with five seconds left after a Lauren Redfern (Carbondale, CO/Basalt) free throw. The Skyhawks then allowed the Wildcats to dribble all the way down the court, ensuring not to foul, and as Weber launched the final three-pointer that was good, the Skyhawks celebrated the one-point victory.
Tonight the Skyhawks play their final exhibition of the preseason against the University of Utah, another Division I opponent at 7:00 p.m.
