CANYON, TX - November 8, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team fell 2-1 this afternoon to the West Texas A&M Buffaloes in the NCAA Division II Regional Semifinals. The Skyhawks conclude their 2007 season with the loss at 15-6-1 overall. West Texas moves on to play Midwestern State in the Regional final on Saturday.
A goal in the 30th minute from Nick Kirchhof (Centennial, CO/Grandview) gave the Skyhawks the 1-0 lead going into halftime, but two second-half goals from the Buffaloes, including a controversial penalty kick, handed the Skyhawks the loss.
The Skyhawks tried to capitalize on their second half opportunities, but the Buffaloes held them at bay with a solid defensive outing.
Jeff Jennings (Aurora, CO/Grandview) and Kieran Hall (Blackburn, Eng./Queens Park) were named to the NCAA Division II Championship All-Midwest Regional team.
West Texas A&M advances to the regional finals against Midwestern State on Saturday. The Skyhawks conclude their season as the RMAC Tournament Champions, a title they've held for three consecutive years. They also advanced to the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship for the third straight season.
