Skyhawks' Off to Best Start in Program History

SEASIDE, CA - December 28, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team improved to 9-1 on the season in a 67-49 over San Francisco State on Friday night. The Skyhawks are off to a 9-1 start, the best start in the program's 26 year history. The Gators fall to 4-5 on the year.

The Skyhawks opened the game with the first seven points to open a 7-0 lead. They improved that lead to 12 points with 13:03 left in the first half. The Gators cut the lead to 11 with 6:37 left in the half and went on an 11-0 run in just over two and a half minutes tying the with 4:07 left in the half. The teams exchanged scores until the Skyhawk regained the momentum and finished the half with their own 11-0 run in the final two and a half minutes.

The second half saw more of the same with the Skyhawks continually improving their lead as the game continued. The Gators last field goal came with 5:22 left in the final period. They led by as many as 19 with 1:19 left in the contest.

Erin Kerr (Buckeye, AZ/Buckeye Union) led the Skyhawks with 19 points in the win. She went 6-for-13 from the field including 6-for-11 from beyond the arch.

Allison Rosel (Colorado Springs, CO/Doherty) and Audrey George (Longmont, CO/Niwot) both recorded double-doubles in the win. Rosel tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds in her third double-double in the last four games, while George scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in her first double-double of the season.

Katie Mackey (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) added 13 points on 5-of-11 from the field and 1-of-2 from the free throw line.

The Skyhawks play another game in Seaside, California tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. against California State Monterey Bay.
