DURANGO, CO - August 25, 2007 - The nationally ranked #2 Fort Lewis College men's soccer team defeated Barry University 1-0 this afternoon in their 2007 season opener.
Midfielder Kieran Hall (Blackburn, Eng./Queens Park) scored the game's loan goal in the 84th minute off a corner kick from fellow senior Casey Roberts (Farmington, NM/Farmington).
The Skyhawks out-shot the Buccaneers 23-11 during the match and recorded seven more shots on goal. Roberts led the Skyhawks with five shots, while Hall, Tom Settle (Fareham, Eng./Cams Hill) and David Barden (South Haven, MI/South Haven) tallied three shots a piece.
Zane Wells (Durango, CO/Durango) recorded the first shutout of his career, while grabbing three saves.
"They were a very good team," said head coach Tim Hankinson. "It was great to see the support for the Skyhawks in Denver from the FLC Alumni and players' families."
The Skyhawks return to action Thursday, August 30th at 4 p.m. when they travel to Mesa State. They open their home schedule on Friday, September 14th at 3:30 p.m. against Colorado Christian.
