DURANGO, CO - August 31, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College volleyball team defeated the Zias of Eastern New Mexico this afternoon in their 2007 home opener. The Skyhawks defeated the Zias in three matches (30-20, 30-25, 30-25). The Skyhawks play another game this evening against nationall ranked #8 Ashland University at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Freshman Chelsea Flaming (Durango, CO/Durango) led the Sykhawks with 10 kills in the match. Four other Skyhawks tallied atleast 8 kills.

Setter Melissa Childs (Vista, CA/Rancho Bueno Vista) recorded a career-high 45 assists in the match and added five kills and seven digs.

The Skyhawks connected on 57 of 135 attack attempts and recorded only 21 errors (.267 hitting percentage). They nailed five service aces and managed 55 digs, including 18 from Adrianne Dettler (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer), in their 2007 home opener.

The Skyhawks return to action tomorrow at approximately 2:00 p.m. against CSU-Pueblo.
