Women's Soccer Blasts Past Adams

DURANGO, CO - September 14, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team defeated Adams State College 5-1 this afternoon in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) home opener. The Skyhawks improve to 5-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the RMAC, while the Grizzlies fall to 2-6-1 overall and 0-3-0 in conference play.

Four different Skyhawks score in the victory which was sealed by a Hayley Hollenga (Colorado Springs, CO/Air Academy) in the 14th minute just over two minutes after the Skyhawks' first goal, scored by Lorin Anderson (Durango, CO/Durango).

Hollenga scored her second of the game, and fourth of the season in the 33rd minute to give the Skyhawks the 3-0 lead.

After halftime, the Grizzlies answered with their lone goal of the game in the 51st minute. Jamie MacArthur (Albuquerque, NM/New Mexico) then scored her second goal of the season in the 77th minute to seal the Skyhawks' fifth win of the season.

Kim Sisneros (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola) put icing on the victory with an unassisted goal in the 86th minute. She aded two assists in the match.

Anderson, Kelly Smith (Chino Valley, AZ/Chino Valley), Sara Egbom (Albuqeurque, NM/Hope Christian) and Nichole Kluk (Los Alamos, NM/Los Alamos) each recorded assists for the Skyhawks.

The Skyhawks recorded 22 shots compared to the Grizzlies five shots.

The Skyhawks return to Dirks Field on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The game can be heard live on KIUP 930 AM and at www.radiodurango.com. Sunday's game will also be dedicated to Fort Lewis College President, Dr. Brad Bartel. President Bartel is currently in Denver receiving treatment for myeloma, a rare form of cancer. Mercy Medical Center will be holding an auction to raise money support cancer.
