DURANGO, CO - September 15, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College volleyball team rolled past CSU-Pueblo in three games tonight (30-17, 30-21, 30-22). The Skyhawks improve to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), while the Thunderwolves fall to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC. The match took just one hour and 18 minutes.
After grabbing an early lead in the first game, the Skyhawks continued to swing away and only trailed at one point in the match. Prior to inserting their reserves, Fort Lewis held a commanding 28-13 lead in game three.
Nicole Schwab (Loveland, CO/Loveland) led the Skyhawks with 17 kills on 24 attempts (.583 hitting percentage). She went 7-for-8 in game two for an unheard of .875 hitting percentage. The senior added four blocks in the match.
Four other Skyhawks tallied at least five kills, including Sara Feehan (Berthoud, CO/West Georgia) who had seven kills and seven digs.
Setter Melissa Childs (Vista, CA/Rancho Bueno Vista) handed out 37 assists and two service aces, while Adrianne Dettler (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) led the team with 14 digs.
"This was an excellant weekend for us," said head volleyball Shelly Aaland. "We're definately getting better every match and it's great to see that happening."
Fort Lewis returns to action Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to RMAC West Division rival, Mesa State.
