Spikers Rally Past Western State

DURANGO, CO - September 22, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College volleyball team defeated Western State College 3-1 (31-29, 30-25, 22-30, 30-28) in their fourth straight victory of the season. The Skyhawks improve to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), while the Mountaineers fall to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in the RMAC.

Nicole Schwab (Loveland, CO/Loveland) led the Skyhawks with 20 kills in the match. She added five blocks and two service aces in the win. The senior now stands just 85 kills away from the All-Time record at Fort Lewis.

Melissa Childs (Vista, CA/Rancho Bueno Vista) handed out 54 assists and grabbed eight digs, while Adrianne Dettler (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) led the team with 27 digs.

Sara Feehan (Berthoud, CO/West Georgia) tallied an excellent all-around game with 10 kills, 18 digs, one service ace and two blocks.

The Skyhawks were down 15-10 and 19-14 in game one before coming back to beat the Mountaineers 31-29. In game two, Fort Lewis was up 23-22 and rallied off five unanswered points to grab game two. The Skyhawks lost the lead right from the start in game three and game up their only game of the night. In the final game, the Skyhawks scored the last two points to grab their fourth straight victory.

The Skyhawks return to action this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday against Colorado Christian, Metro State and Colorado Mines. All games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
