Men's Soccer Prevails In Wet Sunday Match

DURANGO, CO - September 23, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team defeated UC-Colorado Springs 1-0 earlier this afternoon in their second victory of the weekend. The Skyhawks improve to 6-2-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), while the Mountain Lions fall to1-8-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the RMAC.

David Barden (South Haven, MI/South Haven) scored the game's only goal in the 66th minute. Casey Roberts (Farmington, NM/Farmington) placed a direct kick right on Barden's head which put the ball in the back of the net. It was the sophomore's fourth goal of the season and Roberts' third assist.

The Mountain Lions had numerous opportunities to score inside the Skyhawks goal box, but Zane Wells (Durango, CO/Durango) made one save along with another save by the Skyhawks' back line. Wells recorded his fourth shutout of the season.

Fort Lewis out-shot Colorado Springs 15 to six in the game, including a 8-2 shot advantage in the first half.

The Skyhawks have the next two weekends off from RMAC play and hit the road for two tournaments. September 28th and 30th the team travels to San Antonio, TX to face off against St. Edwards and Incarnate Word. Fort Lewis returns home on October 10th at 3:30 p.m. against Mesa State.
