DURANGO, CO - September 27, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College volleyball team defeated Colorado Christian University 3-0 tonight in their first of three matches this weekend. The Skyhawks won by scores of 30-22, 30-18 and 30-25. The Skyhawks improve to 10-5 overall and 6-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), while the Cougars fall to 1-15 overall and 0-7 in the RMAC.
In their first of three matches this weekend, the Skyhawks controlled the match from start to finish. After opening a 6-0 lead in game one, the Skyhawks only gave up the lead once in the middle of the third game.
Nicole Schwab (Loveland, CO/Loveland) led the Skyhawks with 15 kills and added three blocks. Three other Skyhawks, Jessica Bailey (Ridgefield, WA/Prairie), Chelsea Flaming (Durango, CO/Durango) and LeeAnne Greenwade (Concho, AZ/St. John's) each recorded eight kills in the win. Flaming added 17 digs, while Adrianne Dettler (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) led the Skyhawks with 19 digs.
Setter, Melissa Childs (Vista, CA/Rancho Bueno Vista) handed out 38 assists in the win and added five kills.
The Skyhawks return to action tomorrow night against Metro State in Denver at 7:00 p.m.
