DURANGO, CO - September 28, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College volleyball team defeated the Metro State Roadrunners 3-0 earlier tonight in their second sweep in as many nights. The Skyhawks improve to 11-5 overall and 7-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the Roadrunners fall to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in the RMAC.
After being down the whole first half of game one, the Skyhawks took a 21-20 lead. Fort Lewis then opened a 26-23 lead just to have the Roadrunners take it back and grab a 29-27 advantage. The Skyhawks then rattled off five points, compared to Metro's one and grabbed the first game.
The Skyhawks used the momentum to carry them through the rest of the match where they only trailed at one other point.
After losing to the Roadrunners twice in the postseason (RMAC Tournament and NCAA Tournament) last year, this might of been a bit of revenge for the returning veterans.
LeeAnne Greewade (Concho, AZ/St. John's) led the Skyhawks with an amazing 17 kills and no errors on 33 attempts (.515 hitting percentage).
Sara Feehan (Berthoud, CO/West Georgia) recorded 10 kills and 16 digs in the match, while Adrianne Dettler (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer) led the team with 19 digs.
Melissa Childs (Vista, CA/Rancho Bueno Vista) recorded 35 assists in the match.
Fort Lewis returns to action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. when they travel to Golden to take on the Colorado School of Mines.
