Skyhawks Drop First RMAC Match in Over Two Years

DURANGO, CO - September 7, 2007 - The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team (2-1-0, 1-1-0 RMAC) dropped their first conference game in over two years tonight with a 5-3 loss to rival Metro State.

The Skyhawks took a commanding 2-0 lead in the first 28 minutes, but the Roadrunners tied the game prior to halftime with two goals in the final 17 minutes of the first half.

Fort Lewis took the lead again just three minutes into the second half when David Barden (South Haven, MI/South Haven) scored off a rebound. The Roadrunners then score three unanswered goals in the remaining 32 minutes to give the Skyhawks their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) defeat since October 22, 2004.

The last time the Roadrunners defeated the Skyhawks was November 9th, 2003 in the RMAC Tournament Championship. The last regular season conference game the Skyhawks lost to Metro was back on September 16th, 2001.

Jeff Jennings (Aurora, CO/Grandview) scored the Skyhawks first goal in the 22nd minute off a pass from Tom Settle (Portsmouth, Eng./Cams Hill). Kieran Hall (Blackburn, Eng./Queens Park) scored the Skyhawks second goal in the 28th minute.

Just 11 seconds after Hall's goal the Roadrunners netted their first. In the 31st minute Metro tied it with a goal from Garrett Sadusky assisted by Mark Cromie.

Fort Lewis was out-shot 14-9 and committed 26 of the 40 fouls called in the match.

The Skyhawks return to action Sunday, September 9th at 2:30 p.m. at Regis.
