Fort Lewis Downs the Visiting Rangers

DURANGO, CO - January 11, 2008 - The Fort Lewis College men's basketball team defeated Regis University Rangers in the Whalen Athletic Center 74-62 Friday night in front of over 1,000 fans. The Skyhawks improve to 10-3 on the season and 5-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), while the Rangers fall to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the RMAC.

The Skyhawks opened Friday night's game on a 12-5 run in the first four minutes to open a seven-point lead, but a 9-2 run by the Rangers in the following two and a half minutes tied the game at 14. The teams exchanged a basket and then the Skyhawks turned on the heat. They went on a 13-2 run to grab the lead for good with 8:55 remaining in the opening period. The Rangers narrowed the lead to 10 at the break (41-31).

The Skyhawks shot 63% from the floor in the first half on 17-of-27. They were out-rebounded 18 to 11, but held the Rangers to 46.7% from the floor on 14-of-30 shooting.

In the second half the Skyhawks maintain a double digit lead a majority of the half, leading by as many as 19 with just under nine minutes remaining in the game. By the final horn, Regis had cut the lead to 12, but in front of over 1,000 fans in the Whalen Athletic Center, the Skyhawks secured their sixth-straight victory.

Devon Manning (Kirtland, NM/Kirtland) led the Skyhawks with 16 points on 5-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. The senior added five assists, four rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

Trent Bowman (Durango, CO/Durango) scored a career-high 15 points in his first start of his career at FLC. He also tallied four rebounds, two assists and a block.

Tim Crowell (Long Beach, CA/Sandia) added 12 points and DeAndre Landsdowne (Albuquerque, NM/Sandia) scored 10 points to cap off the Skyhawks in double figures. Crowell also handed out eight assists and grabbed five rebounds.

Fort Lewis scored 25 of their 74 points off of turnovers, Regis had 21 turnovers on the night. The Skyhawks controlled the game turning the ball over just eight times, a season low.
