Fort Lewis Volleyball defeated Western New Mexico in four sets Saturday night on senior night. Along with the victory the fans were treated with their last chance to see Jessica Bailey and Cora Vorwald play in person. Both seniors got a standing ovation from the crowd when they were honored between the second and third sets, for their excellence over the past four years including helping guide the Hawks to two NCAA playoff appearances.
The Skyhawks leader in kills tonight was senior Jessica Bailey with 12 tying teammate Chelsea Flaming. Defensively the Skyhawks middle blockers Cora Vorwald and Taylor Hillberry tallied 10 blocks two being solo to stop the Mustangs attack. Also Chelsea Flaming led the Skyhawks in digs with 19, and recorded yet another double-double with digs and kills.
Barring a miracle, this was in all likelihood the Skyhawks final home game of 2008. The Skyhawks will travel to Western State on Tuesday to take on the Mountaineers who they have already beaten once this season.
