Skyhawks Conclude Weekend 3-1 Against Mountain Lions

DURANGO, CO - March 16, 2008 - The Fort Lewis College softball team split a double header against the UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on Sunday ending the weekend with three out of four possible wins. The Skyhawks lost game one 0-2, but rebounded in the nightcap taking the 5-2 decision. The Skyhawks improve their overall record to 8-11-1 and their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) record to 4-4-1 by the end of the weekend. The Mountain Lions, the top pick in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, fall to 14-9 overall and 7-5 in the RMAC after the weekend.

Cary Moone (Waterflow, NM/Georgia Southern) and Mary Oppenhein (Bountiful, UT/Garden City CC) pitched outstanding games to secure the Skyhawks best RMAC weekend of the season. Moone, in her first appearances since opening weekend, pitched 18 1/3 innings and recorded 32 strikeouts over the weekend, while Oppenhein pitched 9 2/3 innings and threw four strikeouts. Neither pitcher allowed a home run and they combined for only eight earned runs all weekend.
