Volleyball Goes Undefeated Over Weekend

Saiz Records 52 Assists in Victory
October 25, 2009.  Durango, CO. -  Fort Lewis defeated Western New Mexico last night 3-2 in Silver City to complete their second sweep of the New Mexico schools. The Skyhawks took down New Mexico Highlands Friday night 3-1. The Skyhawks improve to 7-14 overall and 5-9 in the RMAC.

The Skyhawks beat the Mustangs in the first set 25-20 but lost their momentum and fell in the second set 25-22. The Skyhawks regained the lead after winning the third set at a close 30-28. But once again the Mustangs tied the game winning the fourth set 25-23. The two teams continued to battle it out in the fifth and final match, but the Skyhawks hardwork earned the victory in the end defeating the Mustangs 15-13.

Chelsea Fleming led the Skyhawks in the match with 23 kills, 12 digs and 2 blocks. Natalie Reed had 11 kills and eight blocks, and Heather Bryant added 11 kills. Taylor Hilberry had eight kills and six blocks.

Adriana Saiz finished the match with five kills, a .500 hitting percentage, 52 assists, five blocks and two aces.

FLC (7-14 overall, 5-9 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) will play a pair of home games next weekend against CSU-Pueblo on Friday and Adams State on Saturday.
