DeAndre Lansdowne scored 28 points and helped lead the Skyhawks men's basketball team to a 79-60 win on Saturday night over CSU Pueblo in Pueblo.
Fort Lewis bounced back after a disappointing loss to New Mexico Highlands with a defensive effort that equaled the offensive production of Lansdowne. The Skyhawks held the Thunderwolves to just fewer than 33 percent shooting for the game, while the offense controlled the lane, with Kirk Archibeque, who scored 21 in the game, and company scoring 44 points in the paint compared to CSU Pueblo's 16.
Making the victory even sweeter is the fact that the Skyhawks gained the win without starting point guard Jordan Brooks due to injury.
With the victory, Fort Lewis remains in a tie with New Mexico Highlands for the RMAC West lead, sitting on an 8-3 conference record, 17-5 overall.
The Skyhawks took an eight point lead into the locker room at halftime, but pulled away in the second half, by shooting 16 of 24 (63%) in the closing 20 minutes. Along with impressive shooting, the Skyhawks were able to out rebound the Thunderwolves, 38-27, led by Kyle Behrens who nabbed 11 boards.
The Skyhawks return to Whalen Gymnasium to face the Western State Mountaineers on Friday night with an 8pm tip-off.
