Fort Lewis 4, Regis 16
The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team made history on a windy Friday afternoon in Durango, hosting the first ever varsity lacrosse game in school history.
The Skyhawks played host to Regis at Dennison Memorial field, falling behind quickly, trailing 9-1 at the conclusion of the first half.
The second half was one that would not be forgotten by the Skyhawk fans in attendance, if not for the game then for the unique weather. Right around halftime, the winds kicked up and a dust storm made its way down the Animas Valley, creating tough conditions for Lacrosse and an ominous orange sky in Durango.
The weather must have help the Skyhawks a little bit, because the second half proved to be a solid improvement over the first half of play. The Skyhawks grabbed three goals in the second half, with
Adrianne Dettler getting a hat trick and
Hallie Linnenkamp getting a goal off an
Ivy Schank assist.
Fort Lewis did end up falling by a final score of 16-4, but improvements were seen on defense, and the team has continued to develop through the season.
With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 0-6 on the season, but will try to get their first win against Colorado College in the season finale at 1pm on Sunday in Durango.
