September 20, 2009. Golden, CO. - The Fort Lewis Football team lost it's third consecutive game to RMAC powerhouse Colorado School of Mines yesterday afternoon at Brooks Field by a score of 10-51. The game against the Orediggers was tabbed the RMAC Game of the Week and was broadcasted live on Altitude Sports.
In the first half Fort Lewis fell behind quick 17-0 after the Orediggers scored on their first three drives. The Skyhawks were able to get on the board with 3:34 left in the first quarter when Mines was pinned against their own goalline and attempted to run a slip screen. Senior linebacker Joel Johnson was able to read the play and tackle the receiver in the endzone for a safety and a 2-17 score. Another Mines filed goal shortly after put the score at 20-2 with 13:00 left in the first half. On the ensuing drive, Tm Jenkins and the Skyhawks put together an 11 play, 57 yeard drive to score on one yard QB sneak by Jenkins. A goofy two point conversion cut the Orediggers lead to 10 (20-10). This would be the last Skyhawk points of the game.
The second half belonged to the Orediggers as they put up 31 points on four touchdowns and one field goal. The Skyhawks were unable to get any type of offense going in the second half but were able to get a lot of their players reps in the fourth quarter.
The Skyhawks only recorded 13 rushing yards but were able to amass 248 yars in the air. Tim Jenkins was 26-37 for 227 yards while wide out Justin Johnson caught 15 passes for 115 yards. Safety Phillip Odell led the defense with 11 tackles.
The Skyhawks now 1-3 (0-2, RMAC) will return home for another RMAC showdown against rival Mesa State College on Saturday, September 26, at Ray Dennison Field at 1:00 pm.
