Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – After taking a two set lead at Black Hills State University Friday night, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team found themselves tied 2-2 heading into set five. The Skyhawks won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 27-25, but lost the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-14. In the fifth set, Fort Lewis trailed 10-6 but roared back to outscore the Yellow Jackets, 10-4, to win the set (16-14) and match (3-2).
The win, which is the Skyhawks third straight this season, improves their record to 4-11 overall and 4-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Three Skyhawks posted 10 or more kills in the match.
Ashley Wells posted a team high 17 kills and hit .222 overall. She also added 21 digs and two blocks.
Hannah Starbuck and
Madi Bickle each recorded 10 kills.
Jenna Kinzer added 25 digs while
Heather Danny's 44 set assists were a team high.
As a team, the Skyhawks hit .112 (51 digs), served four aces and posted nine team blocks.
Black Hills State, which falls to 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the RMAC, was led by Caitlin Templeton who had a match high 18 kills, Brynn Eckhardt with a match high 57 assists, and Amy O'Neill with 23 digs.
The Yellow Jackets recorded a blistering 21 blocks and 95 digs while hitting .193 (61 kills) at the net.
The Skyhawks will try to continue their winning streak tomorrow night at Chadron State at 6 p.m.
