DURANGO, Colo. – For the first time since 2008, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team defeated Metropolitan State University of Denver. The Roadrunners won set one, 25-20, followed by the Skyhawks winning the next two sets, 25-21 and 28-26. Metro State evened the match, 2-2, after taking set four, 25-21, followed by the Skyhawks fifth set win, 15-12.
Fort Lewis shattered their season high of nine blocks and recorded 20 team blocks against the Roadrunners. Madi Bickle assisted on 10 blocks and recorded one solo block. Stephanie Sonka added eight assisted blocks, followed by Kristin Stephan's seven (two solo).
Ashely Wells tied for match high honors with Metro State's Alysa Heath for 20 kills. Wells also had 13 digs, as did Ally Dell'Amico. The Skyhawks Jenna Kinzer notched a match high 24 digs, while Heather Danny distributed 42 set assists.
Metro State recorded a .091 hitting percentage as a team, recording 61 kills which was 11 more than Fort Lewis.
The Skyhawks will wrap up their three match home weekend tomorrow night at 5 p.m. against Regis University.
