Skyhawks Clinch Tournament Berth with 3-2 Win

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – After a two year absence from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball tournament, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team is headed back to the post-season.  The Skyhawks 3-2 win at home Friday night over New Mexico Highlands gave them a 9-9 conference record and a two match lead over CSU-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs with only one match left in the regular season.
 
The Skyhawks, who improve to 9-17 overall, are 5-2 this season in five set matches.  New Mexico Highlands moves to 12-16 overall and 6-12 in the league.
 
Fort Lewis recorded several season highs in their second to last match of the regular season.  The Skyhawks posted season highs in hitting percentage (.250), kills (61), set assists (57), and service aces (10).  FLC committed only 22 errors on 156 attempts at the net.
 
The Cowgirls bettered the Skyhawks in kills (70) and hitting percentage (.275), but committed eight service errors and 10 reception errors. 
 
Fort Lewis posted their third most blocks this season with 16, but recorded seven blocking errors.
 
Three Skyhawks tallied double digit kills with Ashley Wells hitting a team high 18.  Stephani Sonka added 16 and Hannah Starbuck notched 14.  Heather Danny registered 52 of the Skyhawks 57 set assists.  Wells posted a double-double with 13 digs to go with her 18 kills, and Jenna Kinzer tallied 23 digs and a match high four kills.
 
Darian Mullen led all players with 22 kills.
 
Fort Lewis will celebrate Parents and Senior night Saturday against CSU-Pueblo at 7 p.m.
