Box Score 2 GOLDEN, Colo. – Fort Lewis College faced two nationally recognized programs Saturday in Golden, Colo. at the Colorado Mines Oredigger Classic, falling to both Grand Valley State (L, 3-1) and Texas Woman's (L, 3-0). The two losses put the Skyhawk volleyball squad to 0-8 on the season.
The Skyhawks won the first set of the match against GVSU Saturday morning, 25-17. The Lakers took control in the last three sets, winning by scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-23. Three Skyhawks posted double digit digs with
Hannah Starbuck and
Jenna Kinzer with 11 digs apiece, and
Ashley Wells with another 10. Wells added a team high 11 kills to record a double-double on the match.
Heather Danny earned 27 of the Skyhawks 36 set assists.
As a team, the Skyhawks hit .040 (37 kills, 32 errors, 126 attempts). FLC served up six service aces but committed 12 serve receive errors.
The Lakers (5-2) were led by Kaitlyn Wolters (30 assists) and Abby Aiken (13 kills, 14 digs).
Against Texas Woman's University (4-4), Stephan and Wells each collected 10 kills, while Kinzer led the team again with 17 digs.
Fort Lewis was swept by TWU, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.
The Skyhawks will open their conference season this Friday and Saturday at CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands.
