Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team opened their season Friday morning at the California State-San Bernardino Coyote Classic. The Skyhawks fell in the opening match of the day, 3-0 (18-25, 11-25, 18-25) to Sonoma State University (1-0).
The Skyhawks hit .027 offensively at the net (19 kills, 17 errors) on 74 attempts. Kristin Stephan (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) paced the Skyhawks with four kills and a .231 hitting percentage. Eight of the Skyhawks 17 set assists were distributed by junior Heather Danny (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS). Senior libero Heather Kinzer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Rampart HS) accounted for half of FLC's defensive digs, notching 12 out of the team's 24.
On the other side of the net, SSU out-controlled the Skyhawks offensively, hitting .307 percent (42 kills, 15 errors, 88 attempts), and notching nine service aces.Â
Defensively at the net, the Skyhawks tallied seven blocks to Sonoma State's six.
Fort Lewis will be back in action later today when they face host school Cal State San Bernardino at 2:30 p.m. (PDT). Â
