Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team won their first set of the season, but lost their fourth straight match, 3-1, over Cal Poly Pomona in the Cal State San Bernardino Coyote Classic. The Skyhawks dropped the first set, 25-13, but bounced back to win set two, 25-19, before falling in sets three and four, 25-21, 27-25.
Eight of the Skyhawks 56 ppoints in the match came from service aces. Freshman
Kennedy Clark (Durango, Colo./Durango HS) tied for a match high three aces.
Junior
Heather Danny (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva HS) contributed a match high 28 set assists to the Skyhawks offense. Junior
Ashley Wells (Grand Junction, Colo./Central HS) led the team with 15 kills and senior
Kristin Stephan (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe) added nine. Stephan hit .500 at the net after committing only one error on six attempts. Stephan hit .438 for the match (two errors on 16 attempts).
As a team, the Skyhawks notched 41 digs and posted eight blocks against Cal Poly Pomona's attacks. Stephan recorded five block assists and one block solo.
CPP's Alexa Hasen led both teams with 16 kills. She committed three hitting errors on 27 attempts for a .481 hitting percentage.
Fort Lewis will return to competition next weekend, Sept. 13-14 at the Colorado Mines Oredigger Classic in Golden, Colo. The Skyhawks will face Tarleton State, Central Washington, Grand Valley State and Texas Woman's University.
