2014 Skyhawks Volleyball Game Day Notes - Oct. 27, 2014

Scouting the Mustangs
The Skyhawks will travel to Western New Mexico University on Friday.  The last time the two teams met was Oct. 11 in Durango, Colo.  Fort Lewis lost that meeting, 1-3.  

Leeta Grap and Heather Verrill lead the Mustangs offense. Grap has a team high 2.37 kills per set and it hitting at a .151 clip. Verrill is averaging 2.01 kills per set with a .332 hitting percentage.

Verrill (20 blocks) and Shannon Rich (18 blocks) lead the Mustangs defense at the net, while Barbara Soranzo owns a team high 241 digs.

The Mustangs enter Friday's match on a two game winning streak (9-12, 6-8 RMAC). 

Scouting the Cowgirls
On Saturday, the Skyhawks will face New Mexico Highlands.  In their first meeting this season, the Cowgirls handed the Skyhawks a 3-2 setback.

The Cowgirls are led on offense by Alicia Moreno who has a team high 2.80 kills per set and is hitting at a .196 clip. Defensively Tianna Matthews has a team high 11 blocks, and Jessica Piper owns a team high of 361 digs.

The Cowgirls are 3-4 at home this year.

Individually Speaking
Several Skyhawks are ranked in the top 25 in the league.  Madi Bickle's .213 hitting percentage is 22nd in the RMAC and her 71 blocks are the 11th most in the league.  Shelby Lehman has 63 blocks, ranking her 17th overall.

Ashley Wells is 10th in the RMAC in kills with 256 (3.05 kills per game), and 21st overall in digs (256, 3.05 digs per set).

Ally Dell'Amico has the fifth most digs in the RMAC.  She has 427 digs this season, an average of 4.91 digs per set.  Her 23 aces are the 15th most in the league.  Lindley Gallegos is averaging 0.36 aces per set, ranking her third overall in the league (28 total aces).

Academic Success
Six Fort Lewis College volleyball student-athletes were named to the 2014 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic Volleyball Team.
 
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and have completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. 
 
Sophomore libero Ally Dell'Amico was voted to the first team.  Dell'Amico, who owns a 3.93 grade point average in Math, has played in all 79 sets for the Skyhawks this season.  She ranks fourth in the league in digs (4.77 digs/set) and 15th in aces (21).  Dell'Amico has 15 matches with 15 or more digs and 11 matches of 20 or more digs.

Kennedy Clark, Mallory Dill, Courtney Harms, Shelby Lehman and Stephani Sonka all earned Honor Roll accolades. 
 
An Art major with a 3.77 GPA, Durango native Kennedy Clark has seen action in 38 sets.  The sophomore setter is averaging 2.79 set assists.  She has added two kills, 38 digs and one block.
 
A Fort Collins, Colo. native, sophomore Mallory Dill has a 3.81 GPA in Business Administration.  Dill has played in all but one match this season and has accounted for 80 kills, 98.5 points and 35 blocks.
 
A redshirt freshman setter from Centennial, Colo., Courtney Harms owns a 3.50 GPA in Exercise Science.  She has seen action in two matches this season, starting both of them on the road.  Harms has tallied 31 assists, four digs, five kills and four digs.
 
A junior from Wickenburg, Ariz, Shelby Lehman has a 3.30 GPA in Marketing.  She has seen action in 19 of the Skyhawks 20 matches and has started all 19.  She is averaging 1.13 kills per set and hitting .164 at the net (80 kills, 43 errors, 225 attempts).
 
A senior from Castle Rock, Colo., Stephani Sonka has a 3.89 GPA in Psychology.  She has played in every set for Fort Lewis, and is averaging 1.66 kills per set with a .143 hitting percentage.  She has added 41 blocks and 30 digs while accounting for 154 points.
