GUNNISON, Colo. – October 3, 2014 – After winning the first two sets at Western State Colorado University, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team dropped sets three and four to the Mountaineers but battled back in set five to win the match, 3-2 (26-24, 25-15, 18-25, 15-25, 15-12).
The win marked the Skyhawks second win in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. FLC improves to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in league games.
Ashley Wells tied for match high honors with 18 kills. Wells hit at a .293 clip, committing only six errors on 41 attempts.
Rachel Hendrick added nine kills followed by
Stephani Sonka's eight.
Senior
Heather Danny made her first appearance since suffering an injury the opening weekend of the season. Danny accounted for 19 of the Skyhawks 44 assists. Senior
Ciara Krening added 17 assists.
Ally Dell'Amico dug up a match high 26 attacks. Dell'Amico and
Madi Bickle each served two aces. The Skyhawks blocked nine attacks with
Mallory Dill and Sonka recording four each.
The Skyhawks hit .136 as a team (26 kills, 25 errors, 154 attempts).
Fort Lewis will travel to Colorado State University-Pueblo on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match against the ThunderWolves.
