Volleyball Earns Second Win of the Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KINGSVILLE, Texas – September 12, 2014 – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team earned a sweep over Adelphia University Friday night at the Texas A&M-Kingsville Invitational in Kingsville, Texas.  The Skyhawks won by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-22.  FLC opened the day with a 3-0 setback to No. 16 West Texas A&M University.
 
Against AU, Stephani Sonka led the Skyhawks offense with a match high 12 kills.  Sonka committed only two errors on 30 attempts (.333 hitting percentage).  Ciara Krening posted 19 set assists and Kennedy Clark added nine assists as the Skyhawks hit .220 at the net.  The Skyhawks .220 hitting percentage was a season high through six matches.
 
Lindley Gallegos served a match high three aces.  Krening and Ally Dell'Amico each added two apiece as the Skyhawks finished with nine services aces.  The Skyhawks matched their season high output in blocks with 10.  Gabrielle Silva led FLC with six blocks.
 
As a team, FLC recorded 37 kills, seven more than Adelphia.
 
Against No. 16 West Texas A&M, the Skyhawks went three-and-out (25-17, 25-13, 25-20). Krening and Clark combined for 18 of the Skyhawks 23 set assists.  Ashley Wells hit .308 in the match with a match high 10 kills on 26 attempts (two errors). She also added the second most digs on the team with 10.  Sonka was second on the team with five kills as she hit .120 at the net.
 
Defensively, the Skyhawks blocked six attacks by the Buffaloes.  Ally Dell'Amico led FLC with 13 digs.
 
The Lady Buffaloes notched 49 kills and dug up 52 Skyhawk attacks. 
 
Fort Lewis will be back in action in day two of the 2014 Emerald Hotel Javelina Volleyball Invitational.  FLC will play Eastern New Mexico at 1 p.m. (CT) and American International at 6 p.m. (CT).
